Automation or AI agent? Choose the right level of control

Understand fixed rules, model-driven actions, and where human approval belongs in an automated workflow.

A fixed rule is still useful

A purchase event that waits two days and sends a follow-up message is an automation. Its value does not depend on a model choosing the next action. Pulseem Marketing Automation is cataloged separately from Pulseem AI features so a fixed journey is not presented as evidence of AI reasoning.

An agent chooses within a system

An agent workflow can ask a model to interpret a request and select configured tools. The host platform supplies the permissions, integrations, and execution environment. Compare both the model-driven decision and the system that executes it.

Approval is a workflow capability

The n8n evidence set includes human approval for selected tool calls. That is a documented feature, not a guarantee that a particular workflow is configured safely. Review which actions require approval and what data each tool receives.

A connector is an interface

Pulseem’s MCP Connector exposes documented messaging, contact, and reporting actions to compatible clients. The connector is distinct from an autonomous campaign operator. Client requirements, account permissions, and the chosen action still matter.

A practical selection sequence

Map the workflow first. Use fixed steps for predictable transitions, model reasoning for genuinely variable decisions, and human review where a mistaken action has a material consequence. Validate logs and failure paths as well as successful runs.
